Elements of boxing equipment
The decision to join the world of classic boxing invariably leads the future athlete to thoughts and concerns about buying the necessary sports equipment. Shock martial arts requires a meaningful attitude to the issues of efficiency and safety of training, which are solved through a competent choice of boxing equipment.
Elements of boxing equipment
Comfortable sports shorts and a T-shirt are enough to start training. Products made of modern synthetic materials with a high ability to absorb moisture and quick-drying are preferred.
A special boxing uniform is a mandatory attribute for participation in competitive life. The set consists of underpants and a T-shirt in red or blue (depending on the color of the corner of the ring). Features of the form: loose fit, not hindering the movement of the boxer, lightness, and breathability of materials.
Professional male athletes enter the ring only in shorts, for women the choice is variable: a tight sports top and skirt shorts are provided instead of the classic boxing set.
For the first workouts, beginners just need to purchase non-slip comfortable sports shoes (sneakers or sneakers). To enter the ring, you need light special shoes – boxers.
Technically, boxers are high lace-up boots made of leather, suede, or synthetic materials. Main functions: fixation of the ankle joint and its protection against sprains and dislocations, acceleration of movement of boxers.
Selection criteria: comfort, breathability, lightness, non-slip sole, cushioning of the insoles.
The size grid of boxers corresponds to the standards of ordinary shoes, the height is chosen individually depending on the physical parameters of the leg, the manner of boxing, or the presence of injuries.
Boxing gloves are a basic piece of equipment for working in pairs, training to spar, and performing in competitions. The material for the manufacture of boxing gloves is leather (natural or artificial). Models made from natural materials have better breathability and long service life.
When choosing boxing gloves, you should focus on the weight of the athlete (the heavier the athlete, the larger the glove size), the preferred way of fixing the wrist (lacing or Velcro), and the coach’s recommendation.
Shell gloves are a necessary piece of equipment for training, used to work on shells: punching bag and bag, paws.
“Shells” – products made of natural or artificial leather, with additional padding in the knuckle area (striking surface of the fist). Often, models equipped with weights are used to enhance the effectiveness of training.
The main criteria for choosing shell gloves: comfort to wear, durability, and resistance to shock loads.
Bandages are the first protective layer of a boxer’s arms. With their help, the athlete’s wrists, knuckles, and fingers are fixed, protecting against injury: sprains, sprains, and bruises. The use of boxing bandages is aimed at enhancing air circulation and absorbing moisture, increasing the life of the gloves.
Boxing bandage – a strip of fabric from 40 to 50 mm wide, up to 4.5 m long. The length is chosen depending on the boxer’s age, hand size, and size of gloves. All products are equipped with Velcro on one side and a thumb loop on the other.
The mouthguard is a plastic plate on the teeth that repeats the anatomical shape of the human jaw and allows you to protect the teeth, gums, and tongue.
According to the degree of protection, a single-jaw guard (for the upper row of teeth) and a double one (protects both jaws) are distinguished.
To accelerate the adaptation of the athlete to the sock, mouth guards with special taste qualities are used, which persist throughout the entire operational period.
The helmet is a device for protecting the boxer’s head from visible injuries and hidden damages.
When choosing a helmet, you should rely on the quality and quantity of padding that absorbs impacts, the absence of limitation of head movements, and visibility.
There is a gradation of helmets according to the area of protection and the number of overlays: open (forehead, temples and ears), Mexican (cheekbones, cheeks, chin), “full faces” (all face, except for the nose), bumper (nose and mouth).
